I worked at an event recently and many women commented how lovely my creations were and always followed up with "I'm just not creative" or " I can't come up with ideas" or "I just don't have the time". I've been scrapbooking now for 10 years. I decided to show you how I have come along in my creative process. Below is a photo taken from my very first scrapbook. My layouts were simple pictures slapped on pretty paper with a title (sometimes). I didn't even know I was scrapbooking at the time. The following two photos are from my most recent album I worked on. You see, I have come a long way. Did I take training courses? No. But by viewing what others have created, idea books with how to create certain layouts and Pinterest, all were great providers of inspiration. Its fun to see something beautiful and then put your own twist on it to make it your own. And eventually you just start creating your own wonderful artwork. So don't be afraid to dive into a project. Don't compare your work to someone else's. As much as I would like to, I won't redo my old albums. It shows where I came from and how much I have grown artistically. And time??? Do we really have time for anything we do nowadays? I have three small children and no time for anything. But I do make sure that when I have a small window of me time I put a little dent into my projects. It brings me joy pulling out my photos and taking them out of the box and getting them in an album where they belong. Will I ever be caught up? of course not! Everyone chooses how to spend their time and even if one day I only have 5 minutes to spare, at least I spent those 5 minutes choosing what photos will be in the next layout I work on. Or what paper I think I will use. Or maybe I just cropped my photos. Eventually that layout will get done. I tend to leave my projects out on my desk so I can work on them in this matter. And some days when I am really lucky, my husband will take the kids away and I get an hour or two to put a bigger dent in my project. All I know is I have one goal in mind and that is when I am gone, my children will have many books filled with wonderful memories. And my heart just warms thinking about them looking at them as they grow. Even today they love seeing what they looked like as babies.
